ACME Hotel Company takes great pride in everything creative. This boutique hotel is chalk full of graffiti, fine art installations (like the Bare Painted Ladies), and nods to the music world. Guests can actually check out an ESP guitar from the front desk to help them find their inner rockstar! ACME commissioned me to customize an ESP guitar in order to help promote this new perk.
I started out by working digitally to come up with several sketches. ACME approved a final sketch but after much trial and tribulation, I went rogue and scrapped the approved design just two days before it was due (and yes, I had already started painting.. of course).
I went in a completely different direction and crossed my fingers that the final piece would turn out better than any of the sketches. Luckily, my instincts were right!
Once the guitar was complete, it went into ACME Hotel's window display with an invitation for onlookers to try it on for size and post a photo for a chance to win a stay at the hotel as well as the customized guitar. And that is what they called #ESProcksACME.
I loved working on this project for numerous reasons; First of all, ACME is seriously great, they are always thinking outside the box and coming up with great ways to make their hotel unique while supporting local artists. Secondly, ESP is an amazing guitar manufacturer with an epic story. Finally, I have so much love for the city of Chicago that any chance I get to design a Chicago themed piece of work is an opportunity that I don't pass up!
I'll wrap this up with some of the photos from #ESProcksACME contestants.. in the words of ACME Hotel, always "Do your thing!".
